A visit to Heather’s House of Stories is a lot of fun! The stories are always uplifting and interactive. Both children and adults are encouraged to join in, helping out with the story as it unfolds. The children love to enter the imaginary world of the story, and perhaps even become one of the characters! There is always lots of moving around, dancing, and the odd song, too. Children of different ages and personalities will engage in different ways but they will all take away with them a shared experience in a world of make believe where anything and everything is possible.

Heather is from London, England and has moved to Culver City with her young family for new adventures! Heather is a professional performer and a holds a degree in Theatre and Performance Studies from Warwick University. After graduating she spent many years creating ensemble, devised and physical theatre touring the UK and Internationally (including a short stay at LA’s very own Skirball Cultural Center). As her children grew and started asking for stories all the skills she had learned made story time a lot of fun! Heather created her House of Stories in 2015 to share her stories  and to offer a space of creative freedom for children. A safe place for them to be inspired to get up, join in and be heard.

Music, Language and Drum Circle with Sandra Sandia on Fridays at 10:30 $22/$19 siblings

Ages 1-3

Sandra Sandia’s “Music, Language and Drum Circle” is a fun, interactive parent and me music class for children ages 1 to 3, with a focus on the precursors of language development, such as basic concepts, vocabulary, categories, sequencing, etc… We sing along to favorite children’s songs and original tunes in English and Spanish while learning to play along with shakers. We gather for our Drum Circle for an introduction to rhythm through activities such as “call and response” (imitating rhythms), imitating sound patterns around us, and jamming to favorite tunes. Drum Circles teach us to listen, share, communicate and even taking turns! While it is a structured class, it is a drum circle, so often the music is created in the moment with improvised songs and rhythms.

$22/$19 siblings (includes Open Play for the day); 35 minutes

For more info on the class and instructor: Drum Circle Music

Please visit our calendar for special events and drop-in classes, as our schedule occasionally can change.
